The last weekend of October is the time of year when the Devotion to Work Award – Celebrating Mankind, promoted and organised by the Vigevano Saint Crispino and Crispiniano Consortium, the patron saints of footwear, is typically celebrated. For the last forty years, in fact, this institution dating back to the beginning of 1600 – which has stood out over time for its social and humanitarian activities – has rewarded the devotion to work of entrepreneurs and international members of the footwear trade.

However, this year’s celebrations will take place in a reduced format: the healthcare emergency does not allow for the usual programme of activities, which will be limited to the religious ceremony on Sunday, 25 October, always at the Church of Jesus Divine Worker in Battù, during which the “Devotion to Work” awards will be granted along with the donning of the mantles before Monsignor Maurizio Gervasoni, the Bishop of the Vigevano Diocese. Despite this, the spirit of the event will remain strong with hope and trust for the future: “Social well-being is created through the activities of mankind. – comments Giovanni Torielli, head of the Consortium since 2019 – Now, more than ever before, we have understood over the last few months the importance of work, which is capable of providing dignity to those who undertake it and material and cultural richness to society”.

Among the winners of the award are two especially important names, with a special connection to our magazine: Roberto Pellegrini, President of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, the company responsible for organising the main international trade fair for volume footwear and leather goods, Expo Riva Schuh + Gardabags, which has been partner to Fotoshoe magazine for a number of years; and Lorenzo Raggi, present for numerous years in the sector press as the Editorial Director of the Fotoshoe Group magazines, which today have become the Edizioni AF magazines, after the merger between Fotoshoe and Arsutoria.

The other winners of the 40th edition’s award are: Giancarlo Germanetti, wholesale trader from Venaria Reale, Turin; Gianpiero Gozzoli, owner of the Mamir footwear production facility in Verola Vecchia, Brescia; Antonio Scandalitta, owner of Bavshoes in Vigevano, Pavia; Claudia Simionato, director of the Brenta Consortium of Master Footwear Manufacturers in Stra, Venice; Mariusz Babral, Vice President of the Polish Chamber of Shoe and Leather Industry in Warsaw, Poland; Juan Carlos Fernandez de Salort, President of FICE Servicios Spain in Alajòr, Spain; and Moisès Amoròs Cano, footwear machinery trader from Elche, Spain.

A huge applause will bring everyone together on Sunday 25 October in the church of Battù, among those physically and remotely present, including those who are no longer with us: “The footwear manufacturing industry and world of tanning – concludes President Giovanni Torielli – would like to pay tribute to all those workers, employees, and entrepreneurs, who for many years, have dedicated their daily energy to the development of their companies, all united like one big family. To them, we would like to give our most heartfelt and congratulatory thanks”.
